Pesticides screening

Crops have long been grown with the help of pesticides, especially as it is sensitive to moisture and mould. Some crops such as hemp can be a bio-remediation crop, which means it cleans the soil from harmful pesticides, herbicides and heavy metals.

The use of pesticides across agricultural practices is regulated using maximum residue levels (MRL’s). These are the maximum levels of pesticide residue that may remain in a food following correct use of pesticide product in line with Good Agricultural Practice (GAP).

Whilst reputable growers follow environmental guidelines, there is still the potential for crops to become contaminated. For these reasons it is important products are screened for pesticides that can be harmful if ingested over long periods above certain tolerance levels.

We use a liquid chromatograph mass spectrometry (LCMS) instrument to accurately measure over 230 specific pesticide contaminants in products.
